Lanson B. Jones Principle + Founder + Landscape Architect
A native Houstonian, Lanson attended Texas A&M after graduating from Lamar High School. At A&M, he was among the inaugural class to study abroad in Stasbourg, France. While studying the European Renaissance gardens, Lanson became inspired to give his future clients their own European gardens – scaled to fit their needs. After graduating, Lanson worked for Fred Buxton & Associates for one year, then served as the VP of Design at McDugald Steele for more than 14 years where he oversaw 50+ award winning projects. He launched his own firm, Lanson B. Jones & Company, in 1994 where he could focus all of his design efforts on The European Scaled Garden philosophy. Lanson currently resides in West University with his wife, Cindy, and has two successful children, Elizabeth and Burrows. He is an elder and active member at Waters Edge Community Church. He enjoys playing tennis and has been writing a book, called O.C.D. by Design, also known as “On Center Design.” Lanson’s long term goal is to return to Strasbourg, France and bring his version of the Renaissance garden back to Europe.
Michael Allen Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer at Lanson B. Jones & Co., Michael Allen is the business architect of the firm. Michael leads the executive team through organizational growth and development strategies that put the client at the center of business approach. He oversees the design, construction, and finance teams as well as new business development, and marketing groups. Michael’s oversight approach includes 3 essential priorities: strong personal relationship with the client, strong understanding of their garden, and an understanding of the European Scale Garden guidelines. The improvements to efficiency and execution during his time at the firms has allowed the company to serve more clients in more areas. Michael has been in profit and non-profit organizational leadership for over 10 years. He was brought to the firm for his experience in organizational development, systems thinking, process development and improvement, employee and leadership development, and project management.
Matthew Hogue VP Construction
Matthew is a Texan, through and through. He takes pride in his work, family, and community involvement. Matt joined Lanson B. Jones & Company more than 10 years ago as the Operations Manager. Now Vice President of Construction, he oversees the installation, maintenance, and the application supervisors and their teams, ensuring that each project runs smoothly. He and his wife, Laura, met at Wild West. They still dance the nights away at their home in the Heights and enjoy attending as many professional sporting events as possible. Matt is a Lifetime Member of the HLSR (Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo) and a member of the Calf Scramble Donors committee. Matt currently sits on the board of directors of a local charity and the 501(c)(3) S & S Club, which dedicates its fundraising efforts to support youth and education. He is currently in his last year at the Bauer College of business at the University of Houston and looks forward to further sharing his broad range of experiences with the team.
Jennifer Leonard Controller
With more than 15 years with our firm and 20 years of accounting and business management experience, Jennifer is a veteran at Lanson B. Jones & Company. She grew up in Houston and began studying business at a young age. John Foster Dulles High School is where developed her interest in business as a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the FBLA. From there, she went on to intern with Anadrill-Schlumberger and began her formal business education. While working full time, she finished both her undergraduate and master’s degrees with the full support of her family and Lanson B. Jones & Company. She is the proud mother of two boys, Brandon and Joshua, who used to roam the office halls as children. The boys are grown now, but Jennifer and her sons still enjoy watching Marvel movies and attending as many basketball games as possible.
Megan Chandler Floral Designer + Event Coordinator
Megan came to Lanson B. Jones & Company all the way from Charleston, South Carolina to head our new Floral + Events department. After graduating with an English degree from Clemson University, Megan spent three years in publishing where she built a background in editorial writing and photoshoot design. From there, she spent another three years at Charleston’s esteemed wedding production company, Ooh! Events, where she oversaw event design, logistics management, and execution of more than 70 weddings and private parties. In her spare time, you can find Megan jogging down Heights Boulevard, dining out with friends, or spending time with her beloved pup, Kevin, a Bichon Frise and Cocker Spaniel mix (a.k.a. a “Cock-A-Chon”).
Jim Jech Landscape Architect
Jim Jech joins Lanson B. Jones & Co. with over thirty years of experience in landscape architecture and garden design. After graduating from Iowa State with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture, he started his career in Houston, working alongside Lanson for ten years at McDugald Steele. An Iowa native, Jim now lives in Cypress, Texas with his wife Deb. Besides visiting his son and two grand children in Corpus Christi, or his daughter in Austin, an ideal vacation for Jim would include hiking, kayaking, and visiting famous world gardens. Some of his favorite gardens are the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and Château de Vaux le Vicomte in France. His love for studying the great gardens of the world along with thirty years of experience in Houston make him an expert in landscape design for our community. He loves to make the perfect garden for each client's needs, and his greatest satisfaction comes from knowing the client is enjoying the space he helped create.
Rachel Gibbs Designer + Project Manager
Rachel, the oldest of four children, moved to Houston all the way from Tomball to study architecture at Rice University. During her studies, she lived abroad in Lueneburg, Germany where she solidified her love for European architecture. Her favorite class was a collaborative landscape studio where she and her group focused on Bray’s Bayou and was even chosen to have their project published. Before joining Lanson B. Jones & Company, she worked at IS Media as the head graphic designer where she published the fall edition of their independent film magazine, Indie Slate. She helped launch another magazine for the company, Story & Script, and even had an opportunity to be Robert Redford’s driver for the Film Festival but sadly was not old enough to drive the rental (needed to be 25). Her hobbies include painting, drawing, watching documentaries, and zumba. She also loves her new kitten, William, who was rescued from a piece of driftwood after the Memorial Day flood.
Maria Wenzel Designer + Project Manager
Originally from Mexico City, Maria studied Architecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. After graduation, she embarked on a solo backpacking trip to Alaska to see the northern lights. That is how Maria met her husband who was working at an Alaskan refinery. The two married in fall of 2014 and settled in Texas. With prior experience in both residential and commercial architecture, Maria joined Lanson B. Jones & Company in September of 2015 and continues to add tremendous value to our team as a Project Manager.
Nastaran Moghadam Designer + Project Manager
Named after a flower and born in Shiraz, Iran, Nastaran spent much of her childhood playing in gardens. As time passed, she was inspired to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering. Once receiving her degree, she moved to Canada to obtain her Masters in Urban Design. Her unique travel experiences and diverse educational background allowed her to build a career in a variety of industries, both in small and large companies. Prior to joining Lanson B. Jones & Company, she was a graphic designer at a consulting company. There, she earned a reputation for completing projects quickly and efficiently, regardless of their size. Her work and travel experiences have helped her develop a passion for landscape architecture. She claims, “Landscaping shouldn’t be considered a luxury, but a necessity that offers aesthetic enjoyment, escapism, and a sense of belonging. It is more than just scenery. Landscaping creates interactions between people and place. That’s a privilege that most other professions can’t offer.” Nastaran enjoys spending time with family, camping and hiking in the Canadian Rockies, and going on road trips across the country.
Itzel "Itzy" Solano Design Associate
Originally from Mexico City, Itzel (Itzy) moved to Houston with her family when she was eight years old. She double-majored in architecture and construction science from Prairie View A&M University. During college, Itzy served two years as president of Alpha Psi Lambda, a co-ed Latino fraternity who dedicates their philanthropic time to the Boys & Girls Club. After completing her undergraduate degree, she earned her Masters in Architecture and worked for a residential architecture firm where she developed her passion for design. In her free time, she enjoys staying active and being adventurous. On the weekends, you’ll most likely find her in the gym or participating in numerous races across the state. When not working out, she loves attending concerts and social events.
Lauren Scott Design Associate
Like Robert Earl Keen, Lauren enjoyed growing on the Corpus Christi Bay. After graduating with a political science degree from Texas A&M University, she worked for several years in banking and brokerage before joining our team as our Design Associate. In her spare time, Lauren enjoys attending ballet barre classes and cheering on the Houston Dynamos where she is a season ticket holder. Most importantly, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Stephen, and their two pups, Kenzie and Shelley. Fun fact: Lauren’s destination wedding in Scotland celebrated Stephen’s Scottish heritage with kilts and bagpipes!
Kaitlin Craig Design Associate
Kaitlin was born and raised in Katy, Texas and currently attends Texas Tech University. She first joined the Lanson B. Jones & Company team as an intern in June of 2014 and quickly impressed us with her artistic talent. Recently, Kaitlin was promoted as an Assistant Design Associate. Before college, she worked as a Florist for 3 years and also competed in the National FFA (Future Farmers of America) Career Development Events. She was awarded the American FFA Degree for her dedication to agricultural pursuits. While attending Texas Tech University, she has become a proud member of the Sigma Lambda Alpha Honors Society for Landscape Architecture and a member of the SASLA (Student American Society of Landscape Architects). When she is not competing in Engineering Design Build Contests, she enjoys Equestrian Show Jumping and creating art with a variety of medias. Upon graduation in the spring of 2018, Kaitlin plans to continue working for Lanson B. Jones & Company as a Design Associate. She says, “If I had to choose a spirit animal, it would be a mule because I’m hard working, loyal and extremely driven.”
Christian Rivas Maintenance Supervisor
Christian has more than 15 years of experience in the landscape industry and, as our maintenance supervisor, he ensures that our clients’ gardens stay beautiful, manicured, and grow correctly according the intended design. Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, Christian obtained his American citizenship in 2014. He and his wife, Myra, have three amazing children: Christopher, Brandon, and Brenda. He is passionate about his work and loves trimming shrubs by hand. Christian describes hand-trimming as an art form and the only way to ensure a hedge is truly level and balanced. In his free time, Christian enjoys watching sports and listening to instrumental music (Yanni, in particular).
Eric Grayson Commercial Pesticide Applicator
Eric has been a professional licensed applicator for more than 20 years. He joined the Lanson B. Jones & Company team in the fall of 2013 and his expertise on Houston area pests and specialized rose care is key to the success of our clients’ gardens. He is a native Houstonian and has been married to his high school sweetheart, Sonya, for more than 17 years. He says the key to a happy marriage is spending quality bonding time together and he never misses a chance to get a relaxing mani-pedi with his wife and best friend. They have one son, Caleb, and they try to spend as much time outdoors as possible, particularly hunting, fishing, and practicing karate.
Michael Gabrielse Installation & Maintenance Supervisor
A graduate from Stephen F. Austin with a Bachelors of Science in Forestry Management, Michael has a diverse education background in Land Management, Infrastructure Development, and Construction as well as a strong understanding of Urban Forestry. He was excited to work at Lanson B. Jones & Company for the opportunity to share his heart of service and unique eye for detail. From the Woodlands area, Michael lives a very active lifestyle and enjoys traveling. Some of his trips consist of hiking, rafting, and bike riding in the California’s Yosemite and Grand Teton National Park. When not supervising installation and maintenance projects, he plans to prepare for a triathlon, travel on a mission trip, and one day hopes to own an orchard.
Kemi Assouline AR Manager + Bookkeeper
Kemi, a UCLA graduate with more than 15 years of experience in finance and accounting, ensures that all invoices at Lanson B. Jones & Company are both accurate and timely. Daughter of a diplomat, Kemi grew up in Egypt and spent much of her childhood traveling the world. She is an enthusiast English equestrian rider, speaks three languages in addition to English, enjoys the performing arts, and loves experiencing different cultures. Kemi now lives in the Heights where she spends her free time outdoors, browsing antique shops, and spending time with her beloved Shih Tzus doggies.
Michelle Trejo Marketing Coordinator
Michelle was born in Mexico City, but raised deep in the heart of Houston, Texas. During her undergraduate studies at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia and graduate studies at Rice University, Michelle developed a passion for marketing and helping others in the community. Prior to joining Lanson B. Jones and Company, she became a tech savvy animal-lover who wanted to give back to Houston's community. She built, branded, and managed a "shop for a cause" E-commerce fashion accessory store, Benevolent Jewels. Only two months after its launch date, Houston Press shared the store's mission to donate towards dog rescue groups. As a result of her marketing expertise, she was invited for an interview on Houston's morning talk show, Great Day Houston, and was later voted by the readers of PetTalk Magazine as "Houston's Best Pet Ambassador". During the past few years, she has volunteered across the United States working with disadvantaged youth and neglected animals. When working outside the office, she hopes to encourage her peers to make a positive difference within their communities.
Regina McCormick Office Manager
Regina received her Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of New Mexico and continued on to the Rice University where she earned her Master’s in Music Performance. In addition to being the Office Manager for Lanson B. Jones & Company and Administrative Assistant for her church, Regina is also a percussion teacher and performer who has lived all over the United States. Although she has lived in numerous places, Albuquerque will always be home. “New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment, because each day beings and ends with unforgettable painted skies,” explains Regina. In her free time, she enjoys reading, the outdoors, and practicing percussion. Family is the most important part of her life.
