A conversation with Maria Wenzel
Maria Wenzel joined Lanson B. Jones & Co. in 2015 and continues to add tremendous value to our team. Responsible for the overall supervision of a project, the designer and project manager answered 8 questions to share insight into her latest project, a Modern English Garden.

1. Can you explain your role(s) with this project?
Being the project manager and designer, I worked closely with the project’s landscape architect, Lanson B. Jones. While doing so, I led the execution of planning and design to ensure the project was completed within a given time period. In addition to leading the team, you could find me working independently to facilitate and create an extraordinary client experience, too.
2. How were you inspired throughout the project?
Being accountable for building strong client relationships, I was determined to stand by our commitment to deliver a design that was unique and not disappointing! As a result, Lanson and I were able to turn our ideas into a beautiful reality.
3. What do you believe is the key to designing a functional, yet beautiful space?
Understanding the balance between aesthetics and functionality, performing a deep analysis of the site and considering the personality of the client will always tell us what design approach is best.

4. Did the client have specific goals?
No. However, we wanted to create a low-maintenance backyard that offers tranquility and a safe entertainment space for children.
5. How long was the design and installation process?
The design process took approximately 2 months and installation took approximately 5 months.
6. Can you share any challenges that you faced?
Not really! Implementing a practical plan helps us recognize common challenges before they occur.

7. Why was this project meaningful to you?
I was part of a design that evolved into a backyard that was more harmonious and beautiful than we anticipated… that was very meaningful!
8. What are you working on now?
More projects, more clients and more fun!
