PT. 2 SUMMER GARDEN MUST HAVES: POOL GARDEN
Houston is notorious for its hot and humid summers, but that doesn’t mean you should stay indoors all season long! Imagine enjoying cold drinks by the pool surrounded by a lush outdoor landscape sure to help you beat the summer heat.
Here we have a Williamsburg styled home which boasts a series of hedged, outdoor garden spaces. The clients requested we incorporate the Williamsburg theme throughout the design, so we were careful to incorporate pieces such as the picket fence and kerosene lamps to fit the desired theme.
In an effort to maintain the true integrity of the Williamsburg style, we hired an architect out of Boston to collaborate during the consultation of this project. The arbors and trellises were created to be representative of that period of time, and we incorporated an authentic chain and cannonball system used to open and shut the surrounding gates. The end result: an accurate Civil War period design any Williamsburg architect would be proud of.
The low picket fences are emblematic of the original Williamsburg look; a style point used for parties that created separate, outdoor rooms. The fencing simultaneously acts as a safety feature to keep the clients eager-to-swim youngsters from diving in without supervision. This dual-purpose design feature creates both a functional, yet aesthetically pleasing outdoor space.
The terrace area was previously hidden from view, so we created a series of hedged garden spaces primarily separated by boxwood. Pear trees framed the outdoor fireplace, complimenting the period pieces throughout this scaled room, such as an authentic stogie (cigar) station and a kerosene lamp; paying homage to a timeless architectural era.
