Inspiration for Family-Friendly Landscape Designs
Backyards are where families make memories. It’s a space where children and pets play, where social gatherings are held and relaxation takes place. For those reasons, it’s important to create an inviting backyard that provides safety, while seamlessly connecting its design elements to the house.
Here are 3 stunning landscapes that prove families no longer need to sacrifice a beautiful design to make their dream backyard family-friendly.
1. English Traditional Cottage
Paving with clean lines and artificial turf replace what was muddy, underutilized space. A concrete walk frames the children’s play lawn and offers a path for bikes. Fig ivy will grow to cover the fence adding a green, textured backdrop to a shady dining area. Eclectic pottery brings a pop of color while bistro seating against a confederate jasmine vine offers a tranquil setting for morning coffee.

2. English Country Home
Well-appointed English style estate in the heart of the Tanglewood neighborhood of Houston, TX. Lush lawns, shapely hedges, and opulent color beds adorn this traditional property. Strategic bench seating offers dynamic viewpoints of the gardens and are anchored by tailored shrubs, highlighting the seat’s shape. Antique roses line the garage entry while container herbs and potted citrus decorate the pool area. Blue and white striped cushions are found throughout patio furniture and poolside lounges, giving the setting an English country feel.

3. Modern English Garden
Located in West University Place, this backyard called for a low-maintenance Modern English design that offers tranquility and a safe entertainment space for children and adults. Our design approach incorporated the home’s axes and architectural elements to create an aesthetically-pleasing design that contains three “outdoor scaled rooms”—the pool and veranda, the pool and fireplace seating area, and the parterre garden. Captivated by the patterning details of the home, geometric elements were incorporated into the Landscape Design and furniture to create the perfect balance and proportion.
